New Zealand Regions

There are a number of different and conflicting ways to divide New Zealand into regions. For example, the regional boundaries used by local government are different to the boundaries defined by sporting bodies, which are again different to the boundaries used by many travel agencies and tourism operators.

When deciding which boundaries to use for 3DNewZealand.com we considered a number of issues but eventually went with the official areas defined by the New Zealand Government's statistics department (www.stats.govt.nz). The boundaries for all 16 regions are shown below.
