Mokoia Island

Mokoia Island, in the middle of Lake Rotorua, was originally known as Te Motu Tapu a Tinirau (the sacred Island of Tinirau). As well as having spiritual significance to Maori, the island is a sanctuary to many of New Zealand's endangered wildlife.
